Developing Mental Fitness For The Road Ahead

May 26, 2022

Hello There!

In March I rolled out the first of two big announcements.  That was the launch of “The Speech Revolution Accent Improvement Field Guide” program.  A three-volume online series devoted to helping global citizens be more clear, competitive, and confident when presenting in English.  You can find out more here: https://www.karalund.com/thank-you-1-purchase-the-speech-revolution

Now for the second!  I’m happy to announce the completion of my Positive Intelligence coach training!

What is it?

Just like going to the gym and working on your body to stay flexibly fit, your mind is similar and needs certain focused exercises to help you build resilience.

Positive Intelligence is an app-based, coach-supported, heart-centered, measurable mental fitness program focused on helping individuals and teams build what's needed to reach peak performance, improve health and well-being, and create healthy personal and professional relationships.

What’s in the way?

Only 20% of individuals and teams experience their true potential.  Why?  At times, your mind acts as your best friend or your worst enemy. As your worst enemy, your mind sabotages your job performance, happiness, and relationships on a daily basis.

The Positive Intelligence program works with root systems to help you develop the skills needed to handle challenges faster and easier, leaving a whole lot of energy left over for the things that really matter.

Let’s Get Real

I’m a native New Englander.  We’re pretty good at being cynical and skeptical.  There have been many programs that I have dismissed along the way for being too cold and removed, soft and in-your-face squishy, time-consuming, pushy, built on forced positivity (which doesn't work), or whatever.  Not this one.

It’s a blend of four major areas of science: neuroscience, cognitive behavioral psychology, positive psychology, and performance science.  The four work together in a simple operating system that everyone can relate to without pushing too far in any one direction.

The Positive Intelligence program has had a profound impact on my personal life and relationships, and my health and well-being.  I believe in it, which is why I’m bringing it to you.

Resilience:  Who needs burnout?

As our economy recovers, we are becoming sharply focused on what we need to move forward as individuals, team members, and leaders.  What the Positive Intelligence program does, is to help you develop your ability to navigate life’s challenges easier and with a positive (rather than negative) mindset.  I serve as your Coach helping you build your mental muscle, while moving past the superficial level and into embodiment.

Shifting away from stress faster and easier enables you to solve challenges with empathy and curiosity.  It allows you to be truly innovative and to navigate challenges with a sense of higher purpose and values, rather than from a mindset of stress and scarcity.

Managing Difficult People

Whether at work or at home, difficult people sap our energy.  And without knowing it, we are likely someone else’s difficult person.  It just takes one person to stop the contagion of negative emotions by substituting positive communication skills.  What impact might your new ability to effectively problem-solve have on your next meeting? Or your own health and happiness?

Strengths assessments and EQ

The Positive Intelligence program helps to operationalize your strengths and the elements of Emotional Intelligence without having to memorize a long list of steps, habits, and skills.  We’re working with the root systems that disrupt your strengths, or challenge your EQ, to bring you back into balance.

DEI and B, and Psychological Safety

When doing this work, most people are surprised to discover just how often they are making judgements about themselves, others, and situations.  Developing the awareness and practice of stepping into empathy lays the groundwork for acceptance of our own flaws, the differences of others, and creates the space for true belonging.

Is this really professional development?

It’s a person who shows up to work.  It’s a person who interacts with and leads teams.  It’s a person who creates and re-creates a culture.  It’s a person who sets a direction by either putting out fires all the time or navigates through shared values.  So what do you think?

I’ll be writing about and unpacking some of these areas in the future.  But for now, I want to show you what it’s all about.

Breakthrough Results

Within 6-8 weeks of mental fitness training you'd be able to see the results in MRI imaging:

  • Increased grey matter in the PQ Brain region, home to positive mental muscles

  • Decreased grey matter in the Survivor Brain region, home to negative mental muscles

Improvements in these competencies lead to substantial results:

  • At MetLife, trained salespeople outsold the control group by 37%

  • Motorolla recorded improved productivity in 93% of trained employees

  • In a UK restaurant group, higher competency resulted in 34% greater profit growth

  • At Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceutical, the average salesperson with improved competency sold $55,200 more per month

  • At L’Oréal, strength in these competencies resulted in $91,370 increase per sales person

  • At CIBC, strength in these competencies account for 32% of booked sales and 71% of pipeline sales

"This has been the most impactful training I ever experienced. You develop powerful mental muscles to deal with challenges with much less stress and greater clarity, creativity, and resilience. Every sales professional would benefit greatly from this."  Adam McGraw, Sales VP & GM, American Express
